Israel commemorates victims of Khojaly Tragedy 

In Israel, the Israel-Azerbaijan International Association (AzIz) hosted a commemorative event in connection with the 26th anniversary of the Khojali tragedy, during which 613 people were killed with particular brutality during the attack on the city of the nationalist illegal armed groups. Women, old people and children were among killed,  another 1000 people became disabled, 1275 people were kidnapped, 150 of them missing.

This year, the event organised by AzIz and the national Jewish foundation KKL was held in a special place - in the grove ‘Khojaly 613’, planted two years ago by the members of the association in the presence of the Knesset and Milli Majlis deputies in the Presidential Garden in memory of the victims of this war crime.

Director of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center under the AzIz Association, Yegyana Salman, reminded those who came about the origins and essence of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, about the separatist and occupation policy of nationalists in Karabakh and Armenia, the most monstrous result of which were these 613 killed during one night. She introduced the participants of the event to Rantik Agarunov, the brother of the hero of Azerbaijan, Albert Agarunov, who died in the war for Karabakh, and asked for a moment of silence.

The director general of KKL Euro-Asia Yigal Yasinov, in turn, drew attention to the fact that the grove ‘Khojaly 613’ is the first in Israel garden of memory planted in honor of foreigners. Knesset member Oded Forer, the chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary relations of the Milli Majlis Samad Seyidov and deputy mayor of Kiryat Bialik Nahum Rachevsky also addressed the audience.

Lev Spivak thanked all the participants for gathering to commemorate the victims of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He also thanked the deputies of Azerbaijan and Israel for the unchanged attendance of memorable events dedicated to the tragic events for the Azerbaijani Republic and the Azerbaijani people.
